Dental care for those who need it most
More than 75% of 15,000 annual patient visits at Sonrisas clinics serve low-income patients and others experiencing barriers to care. This includes individuals on public dental insurance (Medicaid), those without dental benefits, and individuals facing physical and developmental barriers.

Pediatric specialists
45% of Sonrisas clinic visits provide care to children. Highly qualified pediatric specialists, – a rarity among safety net dental clinics – dedicated pediatric days at Sonrisas clinics and recently installed overhead TV screens in children’s operatories help make the experience of every child in our clinics a special one.
Clinic Locations
Sonrisas clinics are located on the Peninsula, the coast, and rural farmworker country. We look forward to expanding our farmworker clinic into one serving all low-income neighbors in rural south county soon.

Commitment to accessibility
Going well beyond ADA requirements, Sonrisas takes special care for patients with mobility challenges. With large hallways, state-of-the-art operatories equipped with patient lifts, and dental chairs designed to be moved easily to make room for treatment on wheelchairs, mobility challenges need not be a barrier to oral care.

Care for those without dental insurance
Income-qualified individuals who do not have dental insurance can access up to 45% discount on Sonrisas’ services through our Affordable Scale plan. This program is a lifeline for older adults (nearly a quarter of Sonrisas patients) who lose dental benefits in retirements and low-income adults unable to access Medi-Cal Dental benefits.

Commitment to farmworkers and rural dental care
San Mateo County’s rural south coast is home to 3,000 people, many of them farmworkers who provide nutrition to all of us. Sonrisas is currently in the process of expanding our current once-a-week farmworker dental clinic to more low-income residents of the community.
Curious about Sonrisas outside the clinic? Sonrisas’ community programming provides oral health screenings, health education, community health worker services and more.
