Cheryl Fama is our 2023 Visions of Valencia Honoree! Cheryl believes, as we do, that all members of our community, regardless of physical, developmental, or financial challenges, deserve quality health care, dignity, and compassion. The work of justice must include all of us investing in our communities and our neighbors together, especially for those who have been excluded or marginalized. Cheryl’s passion for improving access to dental care in our community and her strong vision for justice were instrumental in establishing the San Mateo Sonrisas Dental Health Center.

For over twenty years, Cheryl has championed community-based health and wellness services for all San Mateo County residents. A lifelong resident of San Mateo County, she started her career as a critical care nurse, then went on to become President and CEO of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. In 2007, she joined the Peninsula Health Care District, where she served as CEO for sixteen years before retiring in April 2023.
